The 2022 Porsche 911 is the latest 911 model in Porsche’s Heritage Design Edition collection. It reflects a classic 1960s-1970s era of Porsche, as it is inspired by the original 911 and the 911 Carrera RS 2.7. If there’s any chance Porsche collectors are interested in this pristine limited edition model, there’s no time to waste. It will be available in the United States during the 2023 model year but there are only 1,250 examples available worldwide.
Those familiar with Porsche’s track record will be fans of this sensational model. It is the second entry in Porsche’s Heritage Design Edition that first launched in 2020 with the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition. This Sports Classic takes many characteristics from different Porsches and combines them into one truly unique machine: the 911 Turbo S’s wide-body layout (without the side air intakes in the rear fenders), the first 911 (997-gen) Sports Classic’s double-bubble roof, and the 911 Carrera RS 2.7’s iconic ducktail.
The Sports Classic is available in four colors: Sport Grey Metallic, Agate Grey Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, and Black. The lollipop, side lettering, and double racing stripes will come in Light Sport Grey and will enhance whatever color selection is chosen. The exterior is adorned with a 1963 Crest, a gold-plated Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur plaque, a Heritage Design plaque, and gold-colored logos in the rear. If that isn’t glamorous enough, 911 Sports Classic owners will be able to purchase an exclusive Porsche Design titanium watch that matches their vehicle.
“This unique approach sees the Fashion Porsche design department working with Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to reinterpret iconic 911 models and equipment from the 1950s through to the 1980s and to revive design features from those decades,” said Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualization and Classic.
The retro appearance is offset by modern amenities and improved performance. Although it has the same 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six found in the 911 Turbo models (capable of 543 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque), this 2022 model has a seven-speed manual transmission powering the rear wheels. In addition, the revised engine mapping allows the output to be compatible with the revamped transmission. Altogether, that makes for the most powerful 911 model out today.
In simpler terms, this sports car can go from 0-62 mph in 4.1 seconds. The speed and sleek exterior only further complement the two-toned leather interior with Pepita upholstery.
